The team did a great job stripping off all the old paint (probably 20+ years) and then priming the bare metal. Living in a listed building, we needed the Council to give approval of the expected result before the work could be completed on blasting two beams in our sitting room with soda crystals. We were going to have done test patches and the main job done on different days but then we discussed this with Bob Knott who was very understanding. We then fixed a date when someone from the Council would be able to look at photos of test areas whilst Alberny were on site. If we could do it all in a day this would save them two visits, save us money and save us moving everything in and out of the room twice. On the day, it all went very smoothly. Alberny did some test patches and, having emailed some photos, we waited to see if the Council would give their consent. Happily, the Council liked what they saw and the permission to proceed came within an hour and the team were able to finish the whole job before lunch. We are delighted with the result. Our beams had been covered in centuries of dirt, soot, varnish, brown paint and splashes of ceiling paint from previous owners. Now they are revealed to be characterful old elm timbers. Great job guys. Also I would like to thank Toby and Liam for taking all the precautions they did to protect the place from the dust and clearing up after themselves. The bricks on our 1910 house have been cleaned, but not so much that they look like they’ve been cleaned! They still have some patina, just none of the ugly stains that were there before, which is exactly what I was after. Very happy, thank you!
